SIGNS OF JESUS SECOND COMING AND THE RAPTURE by Raphael Oye Taiwo Unity Christ Evangelical Ministry (UCEM)
Part One
When is the Lord actually coming back? No one can pinpoint the day or the hour of His second coming - Matthew 24:42; Matthew 25:13. The Lord, however, does not leave us in total darkness regarding the answer to the question. He tells us the signs that should enable us to recognize the imminence of the day of His second coming. Matthew 24:3 These signs include: · Increase in the numbers and regularity of bloody wars and revolutions – Matthew 24:6; Luke 21:9. Some argue that this could not be a real sign of Jesus’ second coming since there had always been wars, even before the days of Jesus Christ. But Jesus must be looking at different wars as He sat on the Mount of Olive. He must be seeing with His spirit’s eyes real wars – total, destructive wars that made the wars of his days look like child’s play. · Famine, pestilences, earthquakes, and natural disasters - Matthew 24:7; Luke 21:11. · Fast means of transportation that would enable people to run to and fro and tremendous increase in knowledge – Daniel 12:4 There are several other signs that I decide to leave out because of space. Many of these end-time signs have been fulfilled. Many are being fulfilled in our day. We should now realize that we are living in the period the Bible foretold as the last days when the Lord Jesus Christ may come at any time. The second coming of Jesus will be as real as His first coming, and as visible as His ascension. But far more glorious. With His angels, Jesus shall appear in great glory in the cloud. An archangel will blow his trumpet. In the twinkling of an eye, the bodies of believers who have died before this time will be resurrected. They will be changed by God from dirty, mortal and corrupt bodies to glorious, immortal bodies of celestial beauty. These bodies will rise to meet the Lord in the sky. Their spirits, who have gone to be with Christ at the time of the death of the bodies and are now back with Christ, will reunite with the glorified bodies. The followers of Jesus who are still alive will be caught into the cloud to meet the Lord, their bodies also glorified. This incidence is called the rapture. In their new, glorious and immortal bodies, the raptured children of God will ascend with Jesus to heaven, singing mellifluous, joyful songs of celestial melody.
