WHAT HAPPENS IN A GENUINE HOLY GHOST REVIVAL
Mass Salvation of Unbelievers
In any real revival, souls are saved in large numbers and multitudes of people come running to God through Jesus without a lot of human efforts.
Peter preached a simple sermon on the day of Pentecost and about 3,000 souls were saved. On another occasion, he preached, about 5,000 people became Jesus’ disciples.
There had been no carefully planned sermons. There had been no advertisement on radio, television or in the newspapers, no handbills or posters to invite people to Peter ‘n John Miracle Crusade. People came because the revival power of God magnetized them. He had no Public Address System, no special singer. His dress wasn’t more attractive than those of the other…
In the American Revival of 1857, the Spirit of God swept through the land like a spiritual tornado and great numbers of people received salvation from the Savior.
In some towns it was reported as being ‘almost impossible to find anyone who had not been converted.’
All kinds of people - drunkards, as they stood at the saloon bars; gamblers as they sat at the card tables; congregations, as they sat in churches; even passengers on board incoming liners - came under the influence of the revival power of God that had descended upon the area. They all gave their lives to Jesus without anybody urging them or pleading with them to do so.
It was reported that 50,000 people gave their lives to Jesus in a week when the revival was at its height.
It was reported that in two months in the Welsh revival, some seventy thousand people professed faith in Christ.
The ‘Christ Life’ magazine reported in 1973 that the Indonesian Revival had seen hundreds of thousands of pagan and Muslim Indonesians turned to Christ.
In a genuine Holy Ghost revival, large numbers of people willingly leave the devil’s camp for the Lord’s. Without being forced, pressurized or begged, they abandon the devil and his works. Idolaters would bring their idols to Joseph Babalola’s revival meetings.
Charms and talismans of various types would be thrown into the ever-burning furnace in an area of the revival ground where discarded demonic objects were burnt.
D.O. Babajide, a eye-witness and participant in Joseph Babalola’s Revival reported:
“Unbelievers are bringing their idols. The instruments of divination, images, charms worn round the waist and around the neck, Islamic talisman, demonic rings etc. that are brought to the revival meeting place are more than ten truck loads. The dumping place is filled with the Muslim’s turban and rosaries, masquerade’s costumes, idols, charms, talismans, and other demonic objects.” D.O. Babajide, ‘The Book of the story of the beginnings of the works of the prophets Joseph Babalola and Daniel Orekoya in 1930’ (written in Yoruba) page 16.
Erlo Stegen, the man God used in the Zulu Revival, wrote:
“The day came when God rent the heavens, as it were, and came down while we were gathered together.
Suddenly we heard a noise like a great wind. I can only faintly suggest what happened and attempt to make it clear with a small example. It was similar to pressurised air escaping from an air pump, and as if that wind
were blowing right through every one of us.
The Spirit of God came down and nobody had to explain to anyone else, "Look, God is in our midst." Everybody was conscious of the presence of God without anybody saying a word. All I could do was to bow down and worship the God of heaven.
What happened then?
The Spirit of God came over that place, over the whole area, and brought the people. The first person to come was a witch who lived seven kilometres away and was in charge of a training school for witches. God began at the very strongholds of Satan. To use the prophet Isaiah's words: "The mountains flowed down at Thy presence, as when the melting fire burneth." The fire burned as if everything were made of dry brush-wood.
When I asked this witch, "What is it you want?" she answered, "I need Jesus. Can He save me? I am bound with chains of hell. Can He break these chains?"
I couldn't believe my eyes and ears! For twelve years I had tried in vain to convert witches, sometimes for weeks at a time, and they had always claimed that their powers were a gift from God. And now, suddenly, right
out of the blue, a witch stood in front of me and told me that she was sick and tired of her life, and was bound with chains of hell.
"Who spoke to you?" I asked her.
"Nobody," she answered.
"Who preached to you?"
"Nobody!"
"Who invited you?"
"Nobody!"…
After that witch came the witch doctors, then the possessed, one after the other, day after day. For two or three months we hardly had any sleep at all. Day and night we were so busy that we sometimes didn't even have time to eat or change our clothes. The Spirit of God would literally go into the peoples' homes and bring them to us.
We asked every one of them, "Who brought you here?
"Nobody!"
"How did you know that we were here? Who invited you?"
"Nobody!
"Over and over again we received the same answers, heard the same story.
"We can't explain it, but it must have been God! A power within us has driven us to come here. We can't sleep
anymore, can't recover our peace of mind, all we can see are our sins!"
