Jesus Heals the Sick

          Many years ago, a man brought to my church her daughter who was lame and suffering from a tormenting sickness.  The man explained her problem, then looked inquiringly at me, “What do you think, Sir?”

          “Jesus heals the sick,” I replied.  Then with more confidence, I declared, “He is able to heal your daughter – and He will heal her.” 

And Jesus did just that.  He healed her in answer to our prayer.

          I have often been asked by sick people needing healing, “Can Jesus heal me?  Will Jesus heal me?”

          My answer is always a strong affirmative because I know Jesus heals the sick.  He healed when He was on earth.  He heals the sick today.  He will continue to heal until the end of the world.

          I don’t care a rag for preachers, theologians and Christians who spend lots of time, money, ink and paper trying to make people believe that Jesus is no longer the healing Lord He was in the Bible times.

          I know they are successful with a few Christians. But they never will with those of us who have enjoyed Jesus as the Great Healer.

          I have experienced the healing, life-saving power of Christ in my life that I would be on the top of the list of the idiots of the world to say Jesus didn’t heal the sick. In fact, I would not be alive today if Jesus didn’t heal the sick.  

I don’t claim that every sick person I pray for gets healed. But I have seen enough get healed as I prayed to make me affirm every time that Jesus heals the sick. Most of my meetings won’t end until I have prayed for the sick. That is how great my faith in Christ the Healer is.

Jesus Wills to Heal

          There are Christians and ministers who believe Jesus does not heal today. They find the teaching about healing revolting.  And they fight it for all they are worth. Divine healing ministers get a bum rap in their press.

Seeing the effort and time these anti-healing ministers spend on attacking the truth that Jesus heals the sick, you would think that their lives depended on Jesus not being the healer!

There are also those who believe Jesus heals, but not always.  “God, heal this boy if it be thy will,” they pray.

          One day a leper came to Jesus. He bowed down to Him, and said, “Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean.” (Matthew 8:2-3). 

Jesus immediate response is, “I am willing. Be healed.”

This little incidence proves the willingness of Jesus to heal - always!  There was no place in the Bible where a sick came to Jesus and failed to receive healing because it was not the will of Jesus to heal.  The Bible says, ‘Christ the same yesterday, and today and forever.  (Hebrew 13:8).  Since it was the will of Jesus to heal in the past, it is His will to heal now, and it will be His will to heal in the future.

One of the arguments used by those who are opposed to divine healing is, “Not everybody divine healers pray for gets healed.”

So what? Because I pray for a person and the person isn’t healed is not a proof that Jesus doesn’t heal. There may be several reasons why Jesus doesn’t get the work done through me. But the fact that Jesus does not heal a person through me doesn’t mean Jesus cannot or does not want to heal the person.

3.  Jesus bore Our Sickness

Isaiah 53:5

… The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Matthew 8:17.

Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses

          Jesus not only suffered and died for our sin. He also suffered and died for our sickness, according to the above scriptures. 

Jesus not only bore our sin on the cross of Calvary.  He also bore our sickness on the cross of Calvary.  Divine healing is also provided for in the redemptive work of Christ.  Because of His Calvary work Jesus Christ becomes an eternal Healer. 

The Lord Who Heals

Exodus 15:26

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

          What Jesus has done for a countless number of people all over the world since He ascended into heaven about two thousand years ago prove that Jesus is, in truth, the healing Lord,  the Jehovah-Rapha. 

          I have heard many testimonies of unbelievable healing that Jesus has wrought in our day.  By the power of this mighty healer, the lame have leapt up for joy, the dumb have sung his praises, the bedridden have danced with glee, the blind have seen with brilliant clarity, the oppressed have rejoiced in total freedom and the dead have breathed the air of this world once again.

          I have, on many occasions, enjoyed the healing virtue of Jesus.  The healing power of Jesus broke the power of destructive diseases threatening to snuff out my life, proving to me the Word of Jesus ‘I am the Lord that healeth thee’.
