Lesson Three

                     How God chooses and approves men

 Things that may cause God to disapprove and refuse to choose a Christian.

 Lack of genuine love for God. Matt 22:37-40. A Christian cannot be approved of God if he fails to develop deep, genuine love for God in his heart. You will find in 3.2.examples of those who were rejected because they failed to abide by the commandment to love God wholeheartedly.

Failure to walk in love towards fellow human beings – 1 John 3:10-15. One of the reasons Cain was rejected by God was that he failed to show natural love for his brother. God is love (1 John 4:8; 16). Anybody who fails to walk in love can just not walk with God. And those who do not walk with Him He rejects.

 Pride. Prov. 16:18. Many have been destroyed by pride. It is the sin that caused God to reject Lucifer, who he had glorified (Isa.14: 12-15). And it is the sin that is causing many Christians and ministers of God today to fail to receive God’s certificate of approval. Pride brought the disapproval of God upon Hezekiah, a man loved by God – 2 Kings 20:13-18.  2 Chron 26:3-21: God helped Uzziah against his enemies and made him so powerful and prosperous that his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt. But Uzziah became proud and his pride led to his downfall. Azariah, the priest, told him, “You have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the Lord God.” Uzziah’s pride so displeased God that God rejected the one he had been showing great mercy and goodness.

Disobedience. Deut 18:19-20; Deut 28:15. Disobedience to God brings God’s disapproval and curses. Though Lot’s wife was counted worthy of God’s mercy and grace, which spared her from the inferno that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, but she suffered God’s disapproval when she disobeyed the instruction of the Lord not to look back (Gen. 19:17-26).

Lack of the fear of God – Eccl. 12:13. Ex 1:15-21: Though Shiphrah and Puah did not belong to the only group of people regarded as God’s people, they received and enjoyed God’s approval because of they feared Him. Eccl 8:12 says, ‘it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him.’ You will find in 3.2.examples of those who failed to receive God’s certificate of approval because of their failure to prove that they feared God.
