THE SUFFERING AND DEATH OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus suffered and died for our sin

 1Co 15:3

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

Heb 9:28

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Jesus suffered and died for our sin that He might bring us, and reconcile, us to God:

1Pe 3:18

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Rom 5:10

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

Adam’s sin had separated man from His loving Creator, but Christ’s sinless sacrifice brings him back again to his creator. Man’s reconciliation to God is only through Jesus Christ, not because of any merit found in us.

Jesus suffered and died for our sin that He might give us divine peace that is experienced as the result of forgiven sins:

Isa 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The sin-soiled world has no genuine peace to offer man. The only way to experience genuine peace that comes from God is the way of cross.

Jesus suffered and died for our sin that we might be made the righteousness of God :

2Co 5:21

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus He knew no sin. But He was made sin - not a sinner, mind you; but sin, that is, a sin-offering, a sacrifice for sin. Why? That ‘we might be made the righteousness of God in him,’ - that we might become acceptable to God and share the righteousness of God through Him, that we might be justified freely by the grace of God through the redemption which is in Him. The One who knew no sin of his own, was made sin for us, so that we, who have no righteousness of our own, might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Heb 9:28

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Jesus suffered and died to provide healing of our sick bodies:

1Pe 2:24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Healing of man’s body is mercifully included in the horrible, infernal  burden Christ bore for us on the cross of Calvary.

Jesus suffered and died to redeem and deliver us from sin:

Tit 2:14

Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

Col 1:13

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Redemption’ means ‘to deliver by paying a price.’  The Greek word interpreted ‘redeem’ in Titus 2:14 is "lutroo", which means "to loose," “to ransom”, “to set free by paying a price".

Man has been sold by sin into the devil’s slave-market (Rom 7:14). In the slave-market, sin placed the helpless man under sentence of death (Eze 18:4). Jesus had to redeem, buy  him back. The purchase price is His holy blood

1Pe 1:18-19

18. Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot

Jesus suffered and died to destroy the power of the devil over us:

Heb 2:14

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus died on the cross of Calvary. He was buried by His friends. He allowed Himself to be held down by monster death for two days. On the third day, He broke the power of death on His body and rose again.

Why Jesus Rose from the Dead

Jesus rose from the dead so that we might be born again

1Peter 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead’ (1Pe 1:3 ESV)

If Jesus had not risen from the dead, no one would have been able to enjoy the experience of the second birth with all its eternal benefits.

Jesus rose from the dead so that we might be justified

Rom 4:25

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Jesus died because of our condemnation. Now He rose again so that our condemnation might be converted by God to justification. His death and resurrection ensure that those of us who believe in Him will not suffer and die for all eternity as the result of man’s condemning sin.

Jesus rose from the dead so that our sin might be taken away

1Co 15:17

And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

But glory to God, Jesus not only died to take away our sin, He truly rose up from the dead to see that the sin are thoroughly taken away.

Jesus rose from the dead so that an eternal High Priest and Intercessor might be provided for us

Heb 7:25-26

25. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

26.For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens

Is Jesus now sitting at the right hand of the Most High to enjoy indefinite leave after His earthly ministry?

The answer is, ‘no’. He is not lolling in a glorious throne in heaven. His work towards us did not end with His redemptive work on earth. He is busy in the Holy of Holies of heaven as our eternal High Priest, interceding continually for us (Heb. 7:25). Through His intercessory ministry we receive constant forgiveness of sin, help and grace from the Father.

Jesus rose from the dead so that own resurrection from the dead might be guaranteed

2Co 4:14

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

If Jesus had not risen up from the dead, our hope of the resurrection to everlasting joy would have no basis. We are sure today that we will live for all eternity only because Jesus lives.
